MICRORISC and the CEITEC Brno University of Technology research institute share a collaboration spanning more than fifteen years, resulting in technological innovations with a direct impact on industry, cities, and modern life. From the very first research projects to current applications for Industry 4.0 and Medical 4.0, this partnership has become a prime example of how to connect cutting-edge academic research with the practical needs of the market.
From early communication platforms to smart cities
The joint projects began in 2007 with the development of a modular communication platform, enabling easy integration of wireless communication into any electronic system. This was followed by automated inventory systems, goods protection based on localisation, and open solutions for smart buildings.
Between 2011 and 2014, the cooperation led to the creation of open platforms for telemetry and the development of urban services – laying the foundation for today’s smart city concepts.
Technologies for Industry 4.0 and Medical 4.0
In recent years, the core of the cooperation has been the Future Electronics for Industry 4.0 and Medical 4.0 (FEIM) project, implemented within the National Competence Centre II. MICRORISC and CEITEC are jointly developing:
- Software for automated interoperability testing of IQRF technology
- IQRF industrial communication gateways for connecting sensors and actuators to Modbus and BACnet
- Mapping tools for seamless integration of IQRF mesh networks into standard industrial systems
These innovations pave the way for rapid digitalisation, automation, and IoT integration in industry, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Research excellence with practical impact
CEITEC VUT contributes unique expertise and state-of-the-art laboratories, whose results have earned prestigious awards – such as the FRASCAN II spectrometer, winner of the Golden AMPER award, or the holographic microscope with incoherent illumination used in cancer research. MICRORISC, in turn, ensures the transfer of these innovations into practice and their application in commercial environments.
